Excellent blues & Afro-beat music from Senegal. A band that really seems to be having a great time playing together. Outstanding percussion. Very good production values.
Favorite track: Retiou.
Cristiano Buffa electric guitarist involved in blues and Abdou Mbaye coming from a griot family of S. Louis took senegalese and west african tunes and vulcanized them into deep blues. Muddy tones and desert visions blended with djembé slow beats and rusty ikembé to create an african clay in which to sink. You’ll be trippin’ between daydream guitar textures and minimal percussion while Abdou’s voice talks about love, death, odyssey, cheating, god. 8 tracks recorded on analogue tape by Maurizio Abate in one incredibly hot july afternoon with cigales in the back yard and sweat in the basement. Limited edition of 150 silkscreened copies: 3 different colours (Red, Green and Black).
I would buy this track just for Christmas unicorn, which is only the greatest Christmas song in the entire world. The rest of the album is great because of the wide selection of Sufjan's styles, ranging from full on electrosuf, all the way to good ole' folk. bubblehood
